jumpThe time is now!

It is not about an hour from now, or tomorrow, or next week, or a year from now.  It is about this moment. What will you do right now?

We expend a great deal of energy and frankly anxiety on what we will do down the road. Jesus advises in Matthew 6:34, “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

A Destination or A Journey

We have a tendency to see our lives as a series of destinations, worrying about the arrival rather than the journey.  James described it like this, “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.  Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” James 4:13-14

Our arrival depends on what we do in this moment and each moment as they come. There is no greater place to be than right where you are and no greater decision than the one you make right now.

Living in The Moment

Having intimacy with Jesus means living fully with Him in the moment. It doesn’t mean being oblivious to what’s down the road, but it does mean living in the moment with Jesus without fear of what’s ahead because you are with Him and He is with you. When we allow our minds to wander ahead and dwell there, we are no longer living present with Jesus and our emotions following suit will fill our hearts with anxiety and fear. We will find ourselves thinking in our own strength, which makes us weary.

Intimacy Releases Power

The Apostle Paul, who was always on the go and always facing the temptation of worry in tribulation said,

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;”
2Corinthians 4:7 NASB

This verse has been a guide to me and a reminder to live fully in the moment with Jesus – to seek intimacy with Him above all things.

  • God knows our temptations and weaknesses, so He placed His most precious gift within us, the gift of Himself.  His perfect gift in my weakness drives me to intimacy with Him. It humbles me and makes me realize His love for me and my need to live in the moment with Him.
  • Intimacy brings God glory and reveals His power.  When we step out of the moment with Jesus, we have disconnected from His power. Where I walk with Him, He will be revealed in power in my life.

The time is now!  Determine to live this and each moment intimately with Jesus.
